Epblogs verdict

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is a powerful robust vacuum cleaner, which in addition to doing an excellent job with the vacuuming itself, can also both mop the floor thoroughly and empty both dust and water automatically in the associated base station. Then it does not matter much that the station is very large and towering. The S7 MaxV Ultra also has a number of smart features, including a built-in camera that lets you see what the robot is doing, and extremely smart navigation that ensures that it very rarely gets stuck. The only negative we really have to point out, next to the large base station and that even the robot is higher than many others, is that the price is reasonably stiff.

Roborock may not be as well-established a name as its rival iRobot, but with the S7 MaxV Ultra, the company shows that they can compete with the best in terms of both basic functionality such as efficient vacuuming and smart features and advanced solutions.

In fact, the S7 MaxV Ultra offers the most automated cleaning solution we’ve tested to date. In addition to regular vacuuming, this robot also washes your floors thoroughly with a mop, and it not least empties both dust and dirty water in addition to washing the mop when it returns to the base station

The S7 MaxV Ultra also offers extremely good navigation that makes use of both LIDAR and a built-in camera, and it ensures that it gets around everywhere without getting stuck. In addition, the camera allows you to actually follow what is happening at home via the app while the robot is working, and you can even talk to those who are at home via the built-in microphone and speaker

It is inevitable that 13,590 kroner is a lot of money for a robot vacuum cleaner, but if you think that the extra functionality and automation is tempting and that the price is no obstacle, then you get a lot for your money here.

Price and availability

It’s just as good to just mention it at once – Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra costs as much as 13,590 kroner, which is a reasonably stiff price for a robot vacuum cleaner. At the same time, it is on a par with the top model S9 + from the competitor iRobot, and the latter does not have a built-in mop function. Thus, you actually get more for your money here.

If you think the price is a little too stiff, you should also know that you can go for the S7 MaxV + which offers much of the same vacuum cleaner, but this model comes with a simpler base station that only empties the vacuum cleaner for dust. Thus, you have to change the water in the vacuum cleaner’s water tank manually.

Design

  • Five vacuum cleaner levels, three scrubber levels
  • Built-in camera and LIDAR

Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is Roborock’s latest top model, and it offers features that few others can match. In addition to vacuuming, it can also mop your floors, and although this in itself is not a new idea for robotic vacuum cleaners, it solves it in a much more practical way than many others.

It also has a base station that not only collects the dust from the vacuum cleaner – it also washes the mop, and collects used water completely automatically. All you have to do is drain the dirty water when the tank is full, and refill with fresh, clean water. The dust, in turn, is collected in a traditional vacuum cleaner bag in the base station, and this must therefore be replaced when it is full.

The vacuum cleaner itself has a design similar to many other robotic vacuum cleaners on the market, with a round shape and a brush that helps to sweep dust into the roller on the underside which, together with air suction, draws dust into the container.

The S7 MaxV is equipped with both a LIDAR sensor and a camera, and these are used to map the room and navigate past obstacles. In addition, you can also access the camera via the associated app, so you can, for example, check what is going on at home while the vacuum cleaner is working.

On the top of the vacuum cleaner you will find three control buttons that allow you to stop and start the active program, start spot cleaning and send the vacuum cleaner back to the charging station. In addition, it has an LED strip that lights up white when it vacuums, blue when it mops and green when it charges.

Our test version of the S7 MaxV does most of the work itself, but it is also possible to buy this vacuum cleaner model without the advanced base station, and then you can possibly empty the dust container and the water container manually. These are removed and inserted very easily.

The S7 MaxV Ultra offers five different levels of suction power while vacuuming, and three different scrubbing intensities when mopping. In addition, it also has the three different cleaning modes “Mop”, “Vacuum” and “Vac & Mop”.

The base station is thus very impressive with all the extra features few other robot vacuum cleaners can offer, but it must also be said that it is very large. It takes up quite a lot of space on the floor, and it is clearly noticed.

It is also worth noting that the vacuum cleaner itself is somewhat taller than many other models on the market, and this can make it difficult to get under low furniture and the like.

Performance

  • High suction power
  • Can both mop and vacuum
  • Empty itself

The setup of the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra was quick and easy. The base itself is ready in seconds, and only requires you to plug in power, remove some foam and connect the “ramp” the vacuum cleaner runs up on.

Then you put the vacuum cleaner in place, and the connection to the Roborock app is also very easy with good instructions that are easy to follow. Thus, we quickly got started with the cleaning, and it is impressive how smoothly and automatically everything takes place.

First of all, the robot does an excellent job of collecting all the dust, hair and crumbs without us ever experiencing that the brush got stuck or that it needed help in any way. It also automatically adjusts suction power to the conditions, and it thus increases the power of carpets and dampens it again on hard floors.

It also does an excellent job of navigating past all sorts of obstacles, and it’s clear that it’s taking advantage of AI features to achieve this. In the app, you can see a detailed map of the room after just one round of cleaning, and there you can see how it has resonated until where the sofa is, where the TV is and where the dining table with chairs is. It’s almost a little scary how accurate it is, but it certainly shows that it does a thorough job.

When it comes to mopping, we were also impressed, and much of the reason for that is probably that, unlike many other robot vacuum cleaners that just pull a wet mop around on the floor, it actually scrubs while it runs. Thus, it removes even solidified stains that require extra effort. Not least, it is positive that it automatically lifts the mop on carpets so you do not get it wet everywhere.

It is also positive that the S7 MaxV is impressively quiet while working. This naturally applies especially when it vacuums hard floors, but also when it turns up the suction power so it is not annoyingly noisy.

However, it should say that it makes a lot of noise when it visits the base station to empty dust. This is because it turns up the pressure to full force to empty the container, and it sounds. At the same time, it is also worth mentioning that it is relatively talkative, and you will be informed about most of what it does with voicemails. Fortunately, this can be deactivated if you wish, and in the app you can also activate a silent mode that ensures that you are not disturbed by chatter at obsolete times of the day.

As mentioned earlier, the built-in camera allows you to follow what the robot is looking at at any given time in the app, and it is fascinating to follow the cleaning while you are not at home. At the same time, it also has a built-in microphone so you can, for example, talk to your kids or calm down pets that are at home alone.

App

  • Easy to use
  • Integrated with Google Assistant and Alexa

The Roborock app is easy to use, and as soon as everything is connected, just press “Clean” in the app to start up. Beyond that, it is easy to change the cleaning mode and adjust the suction power and scrubbing intensity.

In the map we have already mentioned, you can divide the house into different rooms and zones, and the app allows you to assign different cleaning tasks to each of these with different settings. In this way, it can, for example, mop the kitchen extra well, while the carpets in the living room are vacuumed extra thoroughly.

Those who have an iPhone 12 or newer, in addition to all this, also get access to an extra function that involves taking pictures of certain details such as furniture and floors in your house, and using these to instruct the robot to clean certain places . This is an extra feature that can be useful, but it is not a big loss if you miss this. The S7 MaxV Ultra is smart enough anyway.

Alexa and Google Assistant support also allows you to control the S7 MaxV using only your voice.

Battery life

  • The battery lasts for up to 180 minutes between each charge
  • It takes 4 hours on a full charge
  • The battery level is clearly visible in the app

According to Roborock, the battery should last for up to 180 minutes between each charge, but it should be said that it is in silent mode. When working at full power, it turns out that it keeps going for about 75 minutes before it has to return to charge.

However, this is more than enough to clean a large living room and a kitchen without any problems. At the same time, you should also know that it can just as well take a break in the cleaning to charge, before continuing where it left off.

The S7 MaxV Ultra spends four hours recharging from an empty to 100 percent battery, which Roborock claims is 30 percent faster than the simpler base stations from the same manufacturer.
