Epblogs verdict

An excellent laptop, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) is equipped for everything from productivity to mid-level gaming. One of its best characteristics is without a doubt how long the battery lasts, but the touchscreen, general performance, webcam, and sound aren’t far behind.

Quick Summary

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) is a little larger version of the laptop from our review of the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 (2022), and it has much of the same features, such as full folding, a touchscreen, and the same types of connectors. It starts out a little more expensive at $1,000 (£780/AU$1,600), primarily because of the larger screen size and typically better specifications.

Although it’s still very portable, its larger dimensions and slightly heavier weight mean that you’ll probably need a larger bag to transport it. The strong and durable aluminum chassis balances off the weight gain. Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 connectors, one headset port, one HDMI 1.4 port, and an SD card slot are among the many ports on the sides.

Because of its huge size and nearly velvety texture, the machine’s keyboard and touchpad make typing on it much easier. The screen’s side bezels are similar to those on the 14-inch model in that they are thinner on the sides but broader at the top.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 is sporting a 12th Generation Intel Core i5-1235U and Intel Iris Xe Graphics like its counterpart, making it well-rounded in both work and play, even though it’s not as powerful as many of the entries on our best laptop list. It’s still got plenty of kick though.

That said, this laptop is made for mid-range games at best, so trying to run titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Dirt 5 is out of the question, though other benchmarks mostly netted excellent scores compared to the competition.

This larger version of the Inspiron 2-in-1 has significantly greater battery life, in large part because of the larger battery, with an average of over 11 hours of life when tested for general use with the PCMark10 battery test and over 13 hours when tested using our HD movie test. Without charging, this battery comfortably lasts a whole day at work, and owing to rapid charge technology, it recharges quite quickly.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) is a fantastic laptop for anyone looking for a device that can handle work and even a few games without necessarily breaking the budget, just like the 14-inch model. One of the few things we really have against it is that a stylus isn’t included, but considering how much you save over buying it at full retail, you can afford to pay a little bit more at the register and still come out ahead with one of the greatest 2-in-1 laptops of the year.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) Price and Availability

  • Available in many regions
  • The price is a little steep

Currently, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) is available at a starting price of $1,000 (£780 / AU$1,600), which is slightly steep for a 2-in-1, and the price can go up to $1,550 (£1,130 / AU$2,900) with the highest spec configuration. It’s also readily available in the US, UK, and Australia in nearly every configuration.

The OS, accessible hard drive space, and keyboard color are a few minor upgrade changes between the three areas. However, aside from that, they are generally comparable, particularly in terms of CPU and GPU arrangement.

And while it can start off a bit more premium than other 2-in-1s in its class, for the performance you’re getting, even at the base spec, make this an outstanding value.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) Design

  • A bit heavy but well-built
  • The touchscreen and display are great
  • Good port selection

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 sports a well-designed, sturdy aluminum chassis that is complemented by a slim body. It feels more durable than the typical 2-in-1, which is typically considerably more delicate, thanks to its thin design, huge screen size, and sturdy chassis. However, the fact that our 2-in-1 weighs five pounds is because of that solid design. Given the abundance of black laptops on the market, the choice of silver or dark green colors helps the laptop stand out more stylistically.

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 has a touchscreen, just like any other 2-in-1, and a nice one at that. Each touch command is well-received, and there is no lag time between the touch command and its execution. The main drawback is the glare, which is really noticeable while in direct sunlight. Unfortunately, a stylus is not included with the Inspiron 16 2-in-1.

With a display resolution of 1080p FHD+ and a webcam resolution of 1080p, this device has excellent color representation for work or play as well as a camera that will capture your face with less pixelation. The mechanical camera slider, which serves a purpose and is a fantastic privacy feature to have, is situated in the top middle of the bezel, which would otherwise look a little too thick.

Though this keyboard doesn’t have a numpad, its simplicity suits the nature of the machine. The keyboard’s color can be customized between black or grey when purchasing, and there’s a lovely backlight that’s useful for dark or poorly lit areas. The keys and touchpad are well-sized and have a silky velvet-like quality that catches your fingers and makes it easier to type and less likely to make typos.

The laptop’s port situation is well-varied, with two each of the USB Type-A and Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one headset (headphone and microphone combo) port, one HDMI 1.4 port, and one SD-card slot. This cements the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1’s flexible nature as a machine that can handle work-related tasks, gaming, and more. And the 16-inch version doesn’t have the same issue of it being difficult to remove a Thunderbolt 4 charger from the port as it was with the 14-inch version.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) Preformance

  • Performs very well all-around
  • Tablet mode is great
  • Solid HD webcam

The Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) has some of the top performance of any 2-in-1 we’ve tested this year given its specifications. In comparison to most of its rivals, the 14-inch version is already superior, and this 16-inch version is even better. It manages streaming, several documents, audio and video calls, and more without experiencing any lag. Additionally, it can run low- and mid-level games, including Sid Meyer’s Civilization VI, and on higher settings, it can produce at least 50 frames per second.

In the other benchmarks, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 outperformed the 14-inch version in almost every test except for two. The first was the Geekbench single-core test, in which it performed at nearly 50% less than the 14-inch laptop. And the second was the Civilization VI benchmark, in which the 16-inch scored 10 frames less than the 14-inch. Despite these oddities, the 16-inch still performs far better in real life than its counterpart.

Switching to tablet mode is where this 2-in-1 really shines, as the 16-inch FHD+ display makes nearly any image vibrant and colorful. Meanwhile, the touch controls itself are just as responsive as using the trackpad and keyboard, even when playing games that support it. This is where our frustration rises as it’s such a missed opportunity for the laptop to have a tablet pen included, as it would pair perfectly as another method for either working or for gaming.

The webcam is also fairly nice; it operates at a steady 30 frames per second and has a 1080p HD resolution. Many laptops with price tags comparable to or lower than that of the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 either lack a camera entirely or have a 720p camera. It’s encouraging to see a laptop take its webcam seriously and provide consumers with a good one that’s appropriate for video conferences and extensive video meetings.

Even though it’s nothing spectacular, the sound quality is surprisingly good with a four-speaker arrangement, which enhances the immersion of streaming and gaming. Most of the subtleties of the music or sound effects in video games are audible, and every piece of music and sound design is audible at the same level of quality when streamed.

Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) Battery Life

  • Battery Life: 5 / 5
  • Battery life is phenomenal
  • It lasts regardless of your activities

For an Alder Lake-powered device, the Dell Inspiron 16 2-in-1 (2022) has an incredible battery life. When continuously worked on using an internet browser, document editing, social media surfing, and conference calls, it will last 11 hours and 30 minutes at its shortest. And even more impressively, the battery lasted for 13 hours and 30 minutes when watching a complicated and colorful movie nonstop till it runs out of power.

A larger and more powerful laptop that is able to boast a superior battery life to its smaller version is a machine that uses its extra space wisely. By allocating space to increase the size of the battery, it’s able to pack in a lot more Lithium-ion battery into the chassis, 65WHr to the Inspiron 14 2-in-1’s 54Whr.
